Allika, Tärklase and Lipu: why one name is not yet one farm
The EKI place-name archive preserves several traces named Allika in Oandu. One 1948 card connects Allika and Tärklase; another Allika trace is associated with Lipu lands.
Correction, 17 September 2026. The earlier identification of Piiritusevabriku A11 / property 12526 with present-day Allika has been withdrawn: it is a different plot in Maidla. Its plan and four building symbols cannot be treated as the plan or buildings of the present farmyard. The earlier research stage is preserved below. The new working identification is Allika A10 / 2067, based on the 1935 plans; this does not establish legal ownership.

The most interesting research moments are not always the ones where everything fits. Here Allika appears with Tärklase on one card and leads toward Lipu lands on another. It is not an error to correct, but a map of how place names really live.
A local name can be a memory of a spring, an old plot, a family or simply a neighbours’ habit. The card preserves that voice, but it does not yet supply square metres or an owner. That is why we do not automatically connect it to Piiritusevabriku A-11.
These branches are worth publishing. Sometimes the best discovery is a sharper question to take to the next map or archive document.
A 1948 Oandu place-name card gives Allika talu as “allika krunt (see Tärklase t.)”. The Tärklase talu card gives “Allika t.” as a variant.
A 1968 Oandu fieldwork card records “5 Allika talu”, described as “former” and as “manor land”. Its sketch places the point east of the river.
A place-name card documents the use of a name at the moment of collection. It is strong evidence of local naming, but it is not a cadastral map or an ownership register.
In the same card corpus, a separate card connects an Allika name with Lipu lands. One name can leave several different traces in the landscape.
The fieldwork card supplies neither a cadastral identifier nor exact coordinates or a legal owner. It is therefore not automatically linked publicly to Piiritusevabriku A-11.
The next step is to compare place descriptions with documents that identify a parcel unambiguously.
