Oandu’s historical axis begins with different written forms. The Estonian Place Name Book brings together Oendall (1591), Owando (1665) and Oando (1796), and distinguishes the later statuses of settlement and village.

A women's society began in Oandu in spring 1933. A few years later a newspaper mentioned more than forty members, sewing, weaving, household work and health — a small notice through which a lively village rhythm becomes visible.
